The Cost of Bob and Doug McKinsey's 8 Days of Christmas (USD)

Something Different

It seems every year, someone publishes the "Total Cost" of the 12 Days of Christmas.  I count myself guilty as well, although I just published the link to those who did the research

Bob and Doug

Being from Seattle, I grew up watching these two guys' parodies of Canadians from "The Great White North"Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas parodied their fellow countrymen to the delight of many "hozers" from the states eh?. When they attempted to do the 12 Days of Christmas, Canadian Style, they didn't quite make it to all 12 days… So, given the 8 days they did make it through, I went to the most American vestiges of retail and attempted to purchase all of the items on their list. Here's how I did.

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

~ 8 Comic Books: $32
OK, I found a basic Spiderman Reader for $2.55.  Other books of what we "old schoolers" ran around the same price of about $3-$5.  If we average it out to $4, that's $32. (I'm rounding)

~ 7 Packs of Smokes $42

While I do not condone smoking I will play along.  Wal-Mart does NOT sell smokes on their website.  In CA, where I live a pack of smokes goes for about 6 bucks.  So 7 packs of smokes will set the McKenzie Brothers about $42 US.

~ 6 Packs of Two-Fours $168

In Canadian, a "Two-Four" is what Americans call a case of beer (24 cans/bottles).  This "Six Packs of Two-Fours" is indeed, 6 cases of beer.  Wal-Mart was not selling beers on-line, so I went to BevMo, where a 6-pack of Labatt's was going for $6.99 for a six pack.  So for 6 packs of 24 (or 4 six-packs), that's 6 X 4 X $6.99 = $167.76.

~ 5 GOLDEN TOQUES $150

A toques is a hat with drawstrings, or a hoodie, without the jacket part.  I was able to find "traditional" toques for around $30.  So you're looking at around $150 eh?

~ 4 pounds of back bacon $40

Back bacon is a traditional British cut of bacon sliced to include one piece of pork loin and one piece of pork belly combined into the same cut.  I was able to find it on the internet for roughly $10/lb.

~ 3 French toast $18

An order of French Toast at a local cafe is $6.

~ 2 turtlenecks $100

JC Penny will sell you a men's Mock turtleneck sweater for $25.  As with clothing, prices are all over the place.  A good one will set you back $50.  Live a little, it's Christmas.  2 X $50 = $100.

~ and a beer $6
Well, let's go all out and get one more brewskie, Canadian of course.  A bottle should run about $6 at a reasonable bar.

Grand Total for Christmas Canadian

About $550 (US)

Merry Christmas Eh?
